About Us A.K Worthington Limited was formed in 1981 by the current Chairman Mr Tony Worthington. The company started life as a traditional haulier specialising in collecting and delivering for the freight forwarders situated in and around Manchester Docks. The company enjoyed steady growth in this area, and in 1986 branched out to offer warehousing services as well as distribution. In 1990 Rebecca Davies joined the company from a major 3PL to introduce some sales activity and general working practices, Rebecca is currently the groups Contract Packing Director. In 1996 World Freight Centre Limited was launched as a separate operation to concentrate on the growing demand for high quality warehousing and bonded facilities. In 1999 Julian Richards, joined the company as Managing Director, to focus the business on development of blue chip customers, and to develop the operations between the two working companies A.K Worthington Limited and World Freight Centre Limited. The current Finance Director Mike Lyons was appointed in 2001 with a view to steer the companies through some progressive growth. The AKW Group was formed in 2004, to create the synergies between the companies and operations and to focus on clients who required the services offered by both companies. In 2006, the Contract Packing division was formed, and this was further enhanced by the acquisition of another Contract Packaging company in 2008. The board believing this was the next part of the jigsaw required to offer the one stop solution. |
